Taking on the Gay Ban in the Military

Today President Obama’s press secretary announced that will be focusing on gay bans in the military.  He said that is not the right time, but when it is this will be the focus.  Congress will be focusing on repelling the 1993 law soon.  The house is considering repealing the “Don’t ask, Don’t tell” policy from 2001 and allowing all those discharged to be allowed back into the military.  According to FoxNews.com in 2001 there were 1,227 people discharged from the armed forces for their sexual orientation.

FILE – In this March 26, 2007 file photo, Andrew Chapin of New York City takes part in a rally on Capitol Hill in Washington supporting legislative efforts to repeal the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy regarding gay soldiers. National security adviser James Jones says President Barack Obama is committed to taking on the “don’t ask, don’t tell” ban on gays serving openly in the military. But Jones says the president has many other pressing matters on his desk, including wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. (AP Photo/Susan Walsh, file)

I think this is great, I wish it could happen as soon as possible! I do not agree with discriminating sexual preference within the job.  The military is one of the only jobs where you are dismissed based on your sexual preference.  The armed forces were the first to desegragate so it surprising that they are still discriminating against gays.  Let them in!

Any opinons?

Same reason why they don’t allow gays in Boy Scouts. I would not feel safe being bunked in the same tent with BRUNO and his friends.
Girls are different than guys though. Straight girls will kiss other straight girls. While straight guys will not get anywhere close to kissing another guy.

Jesus Russ you need to pull your head out of your ass! Your comment is so asinine its repulsive. Bruno? Are you kidding me? And that faux lesbianism comment– wtf are you even talking about? Are you even in college ?? I bet not…..

Btw- Lauren- this is a great post. America was founded on equal rights for EVERYBODY and if homosexual citizens want to serve there country I think we need to honor them just like every other soldier that puts their life on the line for our freedoms and liberties.

lesbian comment? ok ask all of your little girlfriends and see how many of them have kissed other girls. then ask all of your guy friends and see how many have kissed other guys (that aren’t fags). Girls = X amount. Guys = hopefully 0. don’t make assumptions.
we should honor the people that serve our country, but you should think about how many would join/leave the military b/c of this. unless they are able to choose to be in a queer tent or not.
