Last Post

December 7, 2009

As I mentioned before this blog is for a class I am taking.  I wanted to use my last post for it to reflect on tell you what I learned.  I came into this class closed-minded and not very often taking a critical view on any news I would watch, read, or hear.  This blog has taught me to take everything I read with a grain of salt and read at least 3 or 4 sources before I make a decision or form an opinion on anything.  I also wanted to write this blog on President Obama because I knew I did not have a very found view of him and wanted to research and study him to form a stronger and maybe different view.  Well I can say that I have.  President Obama is a great speaker and very personable.  He seems to be a good leader because I feel that he has united many cultures and people around the world.  But I must say that most of the time I do not agree with his policies, but as a person he seems a lot cooler than I thought he would be.  Keep up with my blog I am going to keep blogging because it does teach me to open my mind to other opinions.

We Truly do Learn from the Past

December 7, 2009

This is the second significant historical evidence that I have found today proving we really need to take our leaders and decisions from the past as crucial help for making decisions now.  Here is President Ronald Reagan in speech over the debate over medicare and medicaid.  President Obama and the Democrats pushing for this bill really need to rely on the past to help them figure out what kind of reform we want to get into.  Rushing into anything is never good.

“I am Opposed to a Dumb War”

December 7, 2009

Well I guess Afghanistan is not a dumb war.  According to the New York Times, President Obama said that he does not oppose all wars, just dumb ones.  Luckily this is obviously not his opinion on the recent war, which is not what many in his own party feel.  Many people disagree with the President’s decision to add more troops in Afghanistan, but I do have confidence in the President’s decision (He did take MONTHS to figure it out and had great advice)  If we really lives by his words then we need to support him because the legacy of his Presidency lies on this critical decision.

Obama Economics = Small Business

December 7, 2009

President Obama will make a speech on Tuesday at Brookings Institution about the current economic situation.  According the FOX News he is expected to make suggestions regarding small business including tax codes, policies on hiring workers, and infrastructure items.

This will be an interesting speech to watch considering he recently held a job summit asking for creative new ideas to stimulate the job market.  My father owns a small business and when I graduate I am considering taking over for him.  I will interested to hear the Presidents recent ideas and thoughts on this issue.

Party Crashers

December 7, 2009

I also just realized with my absence from my blog I did not comment on the party crashers.  One huge question that has come up in almost all of my media study classes is, “Why is this such a big deal, get over it?”  I am usually the first one to have this cynical comment, but not concerning this.  According the many polls and studies President Obama has received more death threats than any President in history.  Which I would take to mean that he needs the most security out of any President there has been.  It concerns me that these two socialites got so close to our leaders as they did without being on any guest list.  It astonishes me that they just walked right by, granted they did have to go through security assuring they weren’t carrying any weapons, but one of my professors brought up the point of anthrax or any chemical weapon that could easily go undetected.  I know that the security guards that let them through have been put on leave but there should be serious examination of how these people got through.  One of my friends just got back from DC where she attended a dinner including Robert Gates.  She arrived with high-ranking officials in the military and when she got there realized her name was not on the list.  She was checked out for almost an hour and was close to not being let in.  I just do not understand how at this dinner which was not at the White House had so much security and the White House didn’t.

No one without their name on at least five lists should be able to get this close to our President in his house.

Obama and Tiger???

December 7, 2009

On the January cover of “Golf Digest” President Obama will appear with Tiger Woods.  This will be an interesting combination considering Tiger’s recent scandals in his personal life.  I would be rather surprised if it will still appear on stands.   With Obama’s decline in popularity it may not be a good think to be on the cover of a magazine with someone who is not viewed very foundly by the public right now.  This would have been a great cover since Tiger WAS the god child of athletics and Obama has been seen as quite the golfer lately.

Obama Thanksgiving

December 7, 2009

I just realized I completely forgot to blog on the Obama’s Thanksgiving festivities.  They consisted of first saving the annual turkey.  This year his name was “Courage” and was sent to Disneyland to participate in the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade.  (I actually had no idea of this tradition until I read this article, Bush 41 started this tradition)  He also wished the troops Happy Thanksgiving in a short ceremony.  He also did charity work, handing out groceries to the poor.  But it was not all work and no play, he had his Afghan announcement this week so no doubt he was working on that during the day.

I thought this video would be fitting because it is December.  It is a nice summary of Obama’s first year in office perfectly displaying all the success along with a little Christmas cheer!

Update on Post about the Senate Meeting Today

December 7, 2009

I just read another blog HotAir.com and found out that today’s session in the Senate was a closed-door session for Democrats.  I had no idea.  Before I wrote that post earlier I read three bipartisan news sites including the New York Times.  Not once did they mention it was a closed-door session.  It seems that this a pep talk for Democrats to push for passing the health care reform.  Interestingly it he did not mention a public option or the abortion amendment.  I seemed he did not want to touch on any of these crucial issues.  It is looking as if the President deep inside knows that he cannot pass the public option right now and does not want to come out and say it.  There is no way this bill can pass right now with the public option.  Between the 30,000 more troops and no public option, he might be losing support within his party.
